Fairborn, Ohio
Fairborn is in Greene County. It is located near the city of Dayton and Wright Patterson Air Force Base. It is the only city in the world with the name of Fairborn, a portmanteau word created from the names Fairfield and Osborn; the two villages that merged in 1950 after the Great Flood of 1913 forced Osborn to move out of a flood plain and alongside Fairfield.
Fairborn, as the village of Fairfield, was settled before Ohio was a state. The first log cabin being built in 1799 by George Greiner.
Fairborn has a total area of 13.1 square miles, all of it land.
Fairborn is host to an annual Sweet Corn Festival in August and the UAF marathon every September.
Fairborn Ohio Schools
Fairborn School District includes Fairborn High School, Baker Middle School, and Fairborn Primary and Elementary schools. Fairborn is the home of the largest elementary school in Ohio, Fairborn Primary School. Fairborn is also the home of Wright State University.
