Germantown, Ohio

Germantown, OhioGermantown is located southwest of Dayton Ohio at the intersection of Ohio State Route 4 and Route 725. Germantown was settled in August, 1804, by German speaking families from Pennsylvania.

The German language was spoken in Germantown until the early 1900’s. The village was incorporated in 1833. In 1980, Germantown became a city in the state of Ohio.

The Pretzel Festival is held on the fourth weekend in September, at Veterans Memorial Park in Germantown.

In May, 1976, the Germantown downtown core, known as “Gunckel Town Plat” was recognized by the National Historic Park service as a National Historic Site and Historic Preservation District and Included national recognition to the Shuey Mill, the Poast House and the Watson (Rorer) House.

Germantown Ohio Schools

The Valley View Local School district, serving the communities of Germantown and Farmersville, have four buildings serving kindergarten through high school. The Valley view High School is a member of the North central Association of secondary schools and Colleges.
